Meet the Signing Friends, a book series focused on helping you and your child learn Makaton signing to support communication development.  The books include Widgit symbols throughout to support communication and understanding and to help develop reading and literacy skills.

Each book features colourful and inclusive illustrations alongside stories that utilise vocabulary from the Makaton Communication Programme. Inside you’ll find a QR code which will take you (the parent / carer / teacher) to a bespoke video demonstrating how to sign the vocabulary.  This enables you to pre-learn the signs, so you then have the confidence to read, sign and enjoy the book with your child/ren. Each title has a pdf of FREE supporting resources available via the QR code for you to download and enjoy.

This delightful starter book features a repetitive phrase “I Go…” combined with a new concept/sign on each double page spread. The Let’s Get Started Series of books aims to have a very accessible signing format with 1-3 signs per spread.

Each spread will feature the concept in isolation on one side and the concept in context alongside one of the Signing Friends on the other. At the end, you will be able recall all the images from the story together in a double page spread. Hopefully this will also prompt interactions/signing about where you go.
