Story Text and Sign Transcription

(Sign note – we sign singular items rather than plurals eg. friends/bicycles for ease)

Lola has come to see Poppy today.  “Hello! Let’s make dinner,” says Poppy. (L / COME / SEE / P / TODAY / HELLO / DINNER / TALK / P)

Poppy and Lola go to the kitchen. “Oh dear! There’s no food in the cupboard,” says Poppy.  “We need to go to the supermarket,” says Lola (P / L / GO / KITCHEN / *GESTURE GASP / NO / FOOD / CUPBOARD / TALK / P / GO / SUPERMARKET / TALK L)

Poppy and Lola put on their shoes and coats.  Poppy gets her shopping bag. (P / L / P / SHOPPING / BAG)

The friends go to the shop on their bicycles. (FRIENDS / GO / SHOP / BICYCLES)

Poppy looks for some drinks.  She chooses milk and orange juice. (P / LOOK / DRINKS / CHOOSE / MILK / ORANGE JUICE)

Lola looks for bread, cheese and ice cream.  “What else do we want?” thinks Lola. (L / LOOK / BREAD / CHEESE / ICE CREAM / WHAT / WANT / THINK / L)

Poppy buys the food with her money. Lola puts the shopping in the bag. (P / BUY / FOOD / MONEY / L / SHOPPING / IN / BAG)

At home, Poppy puts the pizza in the oven.  Poppy and Lola are very hungry. (HOME / P / PIZZA / OVEN / P / L / HUNGRY)

Lola sits down at the table.  “Where are the plates, knives, forks and spoons?” says Lola.  Can you see them? (L / SIT / TABLE / WHERE / PLATES / KNIVES / FORKS / SPOONS / TALK / L / SEE)

“My pizza is hot,” says Lola.  “My ice cream is really cold,” says Poppy.  (MY / PIZZA / HOT / TALK / L / MY / ICE CREAM / COLD *do sign near mouth / TALK / L / P)
